Choosing your gravel bike
We decided to write this blog following several recent discussions helping customers explore their gravel bike options. For different riders with different goals, gravel bike options can be very different - even more so than the options available for road bikes. Leaving budget aside, this blog brings together several o

B U L A D E L A H // GRAVEL GOODNESS
Anyone who's driven north from Sydney knows Buladelah. The road doesn't go through town these days, but it still has to wind around and up some serious hills. In fact, the area is basically mountains disguised as countryside. So when some of our Velo crew started eyeing up Goodness Gravel’s Buladelah Edition, the comme

Return to Glen Innes Gravel
The drive up to Glen Innes is a fantastic prelude to a gravel event, a scenic journey to the New England Highlands. This region, sitting high on the Great Dividing Range, is a distinct escape with invigorating air and vast, open landscapes – the perfect backdrop for a day of gravel riding. This stunning scene sets the

A weekend on the Central West Bike Trail
Time to dust off the gravel bikes, pack a sense of adventure, and head west for a quick weekend getaway into the heart of the New South Wales countryside. Our good mate Merv from MC Velo spun us tales of the Central West trail from Mudgee - stories of cheap or free camping at local hotels, unmatched hospitality, and sp

Mud becomes you (the 2023 edition of Mallee Blast 1000)
What’s the best training plan for a big ride? Go on another big ride! This was our ‘big’ idea for joining the Mallee Blast 1000 - a 1000kms unsupported gravel ride, from Swan Hill on the Murray River (which borders New South Wales and Victoria), to Torquay (on the ocean), then back again! The route follows a slightly d

Ebenezer Reccy
Ebenezer isn’t far from the Sydney metropolis (only 70kms). But 1.5 hours driving along fast motorways, past fields and fields of turf farms, Ebenezer feels a long way from anywhere. Nestled between Wilberforce, Sackville, and Maroota, it’s an historic town settled in the early 1800’s on the Hawkesbury River, making it

B.V.R.T.
There is something inviting about riding the longest Rail Trail in Australia - a long flattish stretch of multi-purpose trail through rural landscapes and country towns and communities, to see what you can see. So when friends Jeff and Matt from Brisbane sent out the invite to join them on a ride in both directions of

BOWRAVILLE LOOP - THE LONGEST DAY WHICH WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE A LONGEST DAY
7 hours to cover 60kms was certainly not what was planned. Don’t try this route yourself :-) Our original plan for Saturday was to ride a loop from Glenreagh to Ulong on the mountain plateau, but a short reconnaissance on Thursday by car revealed that this route was remote and not welcoming, even for the most adventur

KOPIKO AOTEAROA
A friend introduced me to various bikepacking routes in New Zealand and recommended the best time of the year to tackle them. I was immediately interested. While the Tour Aotearoa extends for 3,000 kms from the top of New Zealand to the bottom, it felt a little too far of a stretch. At only 1,000 kms, the Kopiko Aotea

THE FEAR OF DISCOMFORT
Given the choice of camping or staying in a hotel for a week, I will choose the hotel. This isn't necessarily a dislike of camping, but let’s face it, a hotel is far more comfortable. For me, the fantasy of camping is a lot better than actually camping - being out in nature with perfect conditions, discovering new rou
