Bike Maintenance Night: Wednesday 11 November

A free evening at the MC Clubhouse on the roadside repairs that end most rides early: flat tyres, broken chains and tyre pressure. RSVP is essential, and bring your front wheel.

Most rides that end early end the same way. A tyre goes flat, the CO2 canister empties before the tyre fills, or a chain snaps on a climb. None of these are hard to fix once someone has shown you how. That's what our Bike Maintenance Night is for.

On Wednesday 11 November from 6pm, our mechanics will run an hour of practical demonstrations and tips at the MC Clubhouse. You'll learn:

  • which tools and spares are worth carrying
  • which tubes and valves fit your wheels, including tube size, Presta or Schrader valves, and valve length for deep rims
  • how to change a tube and use a CO2 inflator
  • how to fix a broken chain with a quick link
  • how to set the right tyre pressure for your ride

It's a good start if you're new to riding, and a useful refresher if your last roadside tube change was a while ago. You'll leave ready to handle the problems that usually end a ride.

What to bring

Bring your bike's front wheel and a set of tyre levers, so you can practise on your own wheel.
