This role sets the standard for the MC Workshop in delivering a superior customer experience across all aspects: hands-on servicing, safety, and excellence. The Workshop Manager is a hands-on mechanic responsible for managing the workshop end to end, including leading the workshop team. As a team member at MC, you may also be required to handle the customer service interface and advise on retail sales as needed.

The role is full-time and reports to the MC Cyclery Store Manager. The workshop team, including the bicycle mechanics, reports to this position. All employees remain accountable to the owners.

What the role involves

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as a professional bicycle mechanic, together with experience running a workshop or leading a high performance team.
  • Planning and executing the workshop servicing quota daily, including timeliness and quality.
  • Monthly reviews with the Store Manager on agreed KPIs, financial and non-financial (team, personal).
  • Supervision, training and proactive management of the workshop team, including daily allocation of jobs and priorities.
  • Ensure alignment with the Store Manager to maintain critical store priorities and initiatives.
  • Be responsible for the store and deputable in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Working to the highest standard of care on all jobs.
  • Ensure the workshop is clean by the end of day, and ready to commence work at the start of day.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times, including the retail store space, and ensure compliance with workplace health and safety practices across the workshop.
  • Optimise servicing processes to ensure efficiency from booking to completion, quality, and capacity.
  • Manage workshop parts ordering, stock levels and supplier relationships, including warranty claims and returns.
  • Maintain accurate product, customer and inventory levels and servicing data in POS.
  • As required, support the Store Manager in customer service and sales, and provide input on product opportunities and needs.
  • Aware of key industry trends, bringing intel of new products and initiatives to the wider team regularly.
  • Proactive and positive engagement with MC Velo, including member liaison and social club activities when required.
  • Attend events on behalf of MC, which may be out of hours.

What you need

  • Solid experience and track record in bicycle construction and servicing, across mechanical and electronic setups.
  • Strong customer service ethos and sales capability.
  • Proven customer-facing, interpersonal, and team leadership skills.
  • Ability and aptitude to work at pace, yet with a priority on quality and safety.
  • POS literate. VendHQ and Hubtiger experience is highly desirable but not essential.

Terms

  • Full-time, Monday to Friday, at 108 Anzac Parade, Kensington.
  • Reports to the Store Manager. The workshop team reports to this role.
  • Salary to be confirmed, and discussed with candidates during the process.
  • Three month probationary period.
