Ride for Police Legacy

Ride for Police Legacy

Like all of you, I have another life outside our frequent catch ups in Lycra. My career has been in and around law enforcement, and I have been blessed with many educational and professional opportunities.

One of the things I am passionate about is the charity which looks after police officers. So when I get the opportunity of combining my passion for cycling and for Police Legacy it’s a match made in heaven.

To give some context, the NSW Police Force does an amazing job keeping our families, neighbourhoods, and state, safe so we can enjoy the lifestyle we have.  Unfortunately, each year, frontline police officers sacrifice their lives to keep us safe. In addition, there is a terrible growing statistic of depression within the police ranks and officers are committing self-harm at an alarming rate. This loss is not only felt by our community in the broad, but directly by the families and friends of officers.

NSW Police Legacy steps in and looks after the families including children of fallen police officers. Previously, I have had the privilege and honour of being a Director of Police Legacy and now assist by being on the organising committee  of an annual fundraising ride. The ride is a three day 300km ride from Sydney to Canberra, which finishes at the National Police Memorial. It is a challenging tide, but isn't brutal.

This year Andy and Paul joined the ride and I was pleased that they received a first hand insight into the perils and pitfalls of being a first responder, but also experienced some of the important humour and culture that unites our police.

Whilst it is a closed ride, if you are interested in joining me on the ride next year, please have a chat. It is three days of great fun!
